Carol Cardona
Dr. Carol Cardona is the Pomeroy Chair in Avian Health for the College of Veterinary Medicine. In addition to her expertise in avian influenza, Dr. Cardona is interested in zoonoses (infectious diseases that are transmitted between animals and humans) and the role that poultry play in human health and well-being. She also serves as co-director/co-principal investigator of the Secure Food System at the University.
Michelle M. Kromm
With over 15 years of experience developing partnerships within the business and research community, regulatory agencies, and civil society organizations to drive improvements with the food system, Dr. Kromm is an expert on risk management and mitigation. She specializes in the areas of food safety, emergency management of disease outbreaks, and antimicrobial stewardship.
Dr. Kromm launched a consulting practice, Food Forward LLC, in 2022 after stepping away from her position as VP of Animal Health and Welfare at Hormel Foods. Food Forward is focused on improving the resiliency of our food system — driving advancement and improvement in the areas of food safety, animal health, and sustainability. She believes by engaging with diverse stakeholders to identify and strategically mitigate risk, we can improve outcomes for animals, producers, and consumers.
